The Rooster being a dominant symbol on this pysanka represents the guard of good against evil, therefore the light that overcomes darkness and intertwined with flowers that are representative of good will. In these days where our world order is ever changing, the Rooster demonstrates resilience and vigilance for the Ukrainian people and thus chosen as the main symbol.
The predominant colours of Orange, Red, Green and Blue reinforce this concept. They symbolize hope, strength, endurance, passion and good health.
Bio
Irene Demchuk’s works reflect her interest in cultural beginnings and the world in which we live. As many of her earlier themes incorporate her Ukrainian heritage, she plans on other works that can “cross-over” the cultural boundaries and speak to others in a way that brings meaning to them personally. Primarily a block printer, her prints often incorporate watercolours to give each piece a life of their own. Recently, Irene has begun utilizing digital graphics into her work.
Technique
Crafted with precision, this 2.5-foot pysanka is molded from a durable, weather-resistant material, ensuring both longevity and resilience. The surface is carefully coated with plaster, then meticulously sanded to achieve a flawless, smooth finish, providing the perfect foundation for intricate decoration.
