This piece is an exploration in how colour can build a foundation for working with line and shape. The Phoenix was developed with the idea of finding flow and direction within the constraints of the shape. The Tree of Life was created with a focus on the transitions between colours to build an emphasis on the physical texture that exists in nature. The band that goes around the egg is a reference to traditional Pysanka, where the lines themselves become a space where the viewer can get lost in the flow of lines converging and moving into one another. Overall, as you move around the egg, the textural linework causes a subtle shift in perception of the piece as a whole.
